A Letter to the Business Owner Who Feels Behind

Dear Business Owner,

I have a feeling you need to hear this today.

Not because you’ve failed. Not because you’re doing something wrong. But because somewhere along the way, you’ve started believing that you’re behind.

Maybe you’ve seen someone on LinkedIn celebrating a major milestone. Maybe a competitor just announced an expansion, landed a big client, or shared impressive growth numbers. Perhaps you set goals for yourself this year that still feel frustratingly out of reach.

Whatever the reason, a quiet thought starts to creep in:

“Everyone else seems to be moving faster than I am.”

The problem is that you’re comparing your behind-the-scenes reality to someone else’s highlight reel. You don’t see the setbacks they experienced before that success. You don’t see the mistakes, sleepless nights, difficult decisions, or years of effort that came before the announcement you’re seeing today.

You’re only seeing the finished chapter, not the entire story. And that’s a comparison that will almost always leave you feeling like you’re losing. The truth is that business growth rarely happens in a straight line.

There are seasons where everything seems to click. New opportunities appear, revenue grows, and progress feels obvious. Then there are seasons where you’re working incredibly hard and wondering if any of it is making a difference.

Those seasons don’t mean you’re failing.

They often mean you’re building.

Sometimes progress shows up as increased revenue. Sometimes it shows up as solving a problem that nearly took you out a year ago. Sometimes progress is creating a better process, becoming a stronger leader, or making a decision with confidence that would have terrified you in the past.

And sometimes progress simply looks like refusing to quit when things get hard.

That counts too.

In fact, it may count more than you realize.
